Physician Assistant – Certified: Matthew Heinrich, M.D. Orthopaedic Specialists of Austin is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant (Hip and Knee Surgery) in Austin, TX. Clinic: Tuesday and Thursday. This is subject to change. Learn most common diagnoses History and physical exam Joint injection techniques approved by the physician Treatment options Learn MRI Be able to discuss surgical procedures and complications with patient Consent pre-op patients Learn EMR. Be able to input appropriate info. Charges are to be entered on the date of service. Assist MA with patient questions, calls and refills Surgery: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Facilities will vary. See patients in pre-op to finish paperwork and answer questions Be in the OR with patient no later than 15 minutes before the start of the procedure, having completed (a) above. Bring MRI's and X-rays to OR Prep, position, drape, set up Close incisions and apply dressings Op note, orders First assist all surgeries Facilitate Room turnover Occasionally make rounds when physician is out of the office Be available by phone to the office for questions, calls and refills Rounds (Will cover when physician is out of the office): During the week, round and write progress notes on my patients. I will see patients daily as well. Discharge appropriate patients. An occasional inpatient consultation will need to be done. Occasionally the other Partners may ask you to make rounds or see a consult during the day during the week prn General Summary of Duties for Physician Assistant: work under doctors and surgeons to practice medicine; from assisting during surgery, to emergency care. Physician Assistants will often be the Primary Care Medical Staff. May supervise medical technicians and nurses, examine patients, administer drugs, order medical and diagnostic tests, diagnose illnesses, counsel patients and their families. Major Responsibilities/Tasks as a PA-C: · Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives. · Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. · Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. · Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. · Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections. · Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance. · Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. · Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. · Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. · Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. · Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. · Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities. · Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
