Security Behavior Detect & Mit Officer Bloomington, MN, USA Req #600 Wednesday, May 8, 2024 PURPOSE:The Special Operations Department works to ensure the safety and security of the people at Mall of America (MOA) from acts of terrorism. As part of the Special Operations Department, Behavior Detection Officers (BDO) will interact with guests, tenants and team members to identify potential acts of terrorism and suspicious behavior. The BDO will patrol the mall and work closely with the Explosive Ordinance Detection Dogs K9 Unit and Patrol Officers ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Deter terrorist activity by patrolling MOA, looking for suspicious behavior and unattended items. Conducts security interviews on persons displaying suspicious behavior. Write detailed and accurate electronic reports as required for suspicious behavior. Requests the assistance of police and other federal law enforcement agencies as necessary. Respond according to policy and appropriately deal with suspicious behavior, unattended items, and vehicles. Utilize quick decision making skills and sound judgment acting in accordance with MOA Security policy and procedures along with State statutes. Ensure proper radio traffic, keeping dispatchers and supervisors informed of all pertinent incidents and activities according to department policy. May be required to act as a Field Training Officer, training new members of the team in policy/procedures and field activity. Provide outstanding internal and external guest service at all times. May be assigned to vehicle inspections and special events. Regular and consistent attendance Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Must be 18 years of age or older. High School diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be proactive and able to self-initiate work. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong time management, organization and decision making skills. Strong problem solving, the ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations. Independent thinker with strong observation skills and ability to multitask. Holds good memorization skills. Prior experience of working in a team. Flexibility in working hours. Required to work weekends and some holidays. Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively (i.e.timely and effective response to emergency situations.) Successful completion of a rigorous 4 week behavior detection class.
