Assistant Professor, Library & Information Science, Instruction-Liaison Librarian NTT

 

The Department of Library & Information at Southern Utah University's Sherratt Library invites collaborative, creative, and service-oriented applicants for their Instruction-Liaison Librarian, a 10.5 month, non-tenure-track, faculty position to begin July 1, 2024. A key responsibility of this position is to teach Information Literacy courses, focusing on the library's required General Education courses INFO 1010: Information Literacy and INFO 2010: Information Literacy in the Disciplines. Because of their key teaching responsibility, the Instruction-Liaison Librarian may also assist the Instruction Working Group in evaluating and developing Information Literacy curriculum. In addition to teaching in the department of Library and Information Science, all library faculty also 1) serve the university as professional librarians developing, maintaining, and improving library resources and services and, 2) work closely with assigned university departments as their Liaison Librarian, assisting them with discipline specific instruction (1 shots) and in the selection and acquisition of resources in support of departmental curriculum.

 

Specific Library and Liaison assignments are assigned based on faculty's specialized education, skills, and interests, whenever possible.

 

Academic rank at the time of hire will be determined by 1) education level, 2) library knowledge 3) teaching experience, and 4) academic preparedness.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Teaches a full load of INFO courses in support of Information Literacy instruction and the library's required General Education course.

 

Assists the library's Instruction Working Group to improve and design online instruction and course materials for INFO courses. Provides instruction to the SUU academic community at large in research-skill development and resources.

 

Assists in the design and maintenance of Canvas modules to support the teaching of Information Literacy principles in online courses.

 

Supervises the management and maintenance of library services and/or resources in recognized area(s) of professional expertise, skill, and education, as assigned by the LIS Department Chair and Library Executive Director.

 

Serves as Liaison Librarian for one or more academic departments.

 

Initiates and maintains professional acquaintances with the Department Chair and individual faculty members in liaison area(s) to promote library services and research instruction.

 

Provides discipline specific IL materials and instruction for liaison departments and disciplines.

 

Conducts collection development for liaison area(s) including new-acquisition selection, and weeding.

 

Uses library guides, and other tools to create discipline-specific digital and print informational tutorials, guides, handouts, and reference in support of teaching/learning/research in assigned liaison subject area(s).

 

Works collegially with other faculty and staff in internal planning and decision-making processes and participates in appropriate work groups as assigned.

 

Performs other duties as assigned by the LIS Department Chair and Library Executive Director.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

• MLS/MLIS from ALA-accredited library school or foreign equivalent.

Experience or commitment to teaching at the college level (online and/or face-to-face).

 

Experience using Canvas or other Learning Management System (i.e. Blackboard, Moodle, etc).

 

Evidence of potential for rank advancement.

 

Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks asynchronously in an academic environment

 

Flexibility and interpersonal abilities of a nature to work successfully with a wide variety of constituencies including st dents, library colleagues, university faculty, staff, and administration.

 

Evidence of ability to work independently and collegially.

 

Evidence of organizational and written/oral-communication skills.
