Job ID 12443 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will plan and carry out research projects following general plans to support collaborative, data-driven projects in Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. The research focuses on understanding the temporal changes of key driver genes related to inflammatory changes over distinct clinical stages of Alzheimer's Disease, and developing a clinical and research framework with the goal to reach fundamental knowledge that can be used to develop treatments to stage and mitigate cognitive decline in Alzheimer's Disease and improve clinical care. Top of Form Bottom of Form ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plan and carry out projects following general plans in line with the lab's focus on Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. Conduct a series of experiments to supply information as part of a larger project, this includes formulating research questions, designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results. Work independently and make necessary adjustments to the research plan as the project progresses. (50%) May assist in developing novel methods or procedures including contributing to the development of innovative bioinformatics and systems biology methods to analyze and interpret omics data. This could involve creating new algorithms, improving existing methods, or integrating different types of omics data in novel ways. (25%) Oversee inventory of samples and manage sample and data transfers. Manage the lab's inventory of biological samples, ensuring that samples are properly stored, cataloged, and tracked. Coordinate the transfer of samples and data between the lab and collaborators, ensuring that all transfers comply with relevant regulations and protocols. (10%) Train new staff/students as needed; direct the work of students. Mentor and train new members of the lab, including staff and students. Guide lab techniques, data analysis methods, and other aspects of the research process. May also supervise students' research projects. (10%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in lab meetings, assist with grant applications, or contribute to outreach and education efforts. (5%) CONTACTS Department: Daily contact with supervisor to discuss research and maintain workflow. University: Occasional contact with other departments to share information. External: Limited or no contact with vendors to exchange information. Frequent contact with collaborators outside of the university. Students: Regular contact with student employees to exchange information. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. Train new staff/students; direct the work of students. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1 to 3 years of experience, or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2 to 4 years of experience required. Graduate degree (PhD or MS) in a related program preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS Scientific and technical expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and systems biology. Fluent in using high-level programming languages, such as R and Python, for analyzing complex biological data and skilled at data visualization. Experience with compiled languages such as C/C++ is a plus. Experience in proteomics data analysis is preferred but not required. Experience in analyzing data generated by high-throughput molecular assays, especially single-cell NGS assays (e.g., scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq). Understanding of statistical principles behind current best practices in high-throughput molecular data analysis. Strong communication and data presentation skill
