Job Summary

The Ophthalmology Division at Denver Health is seeking a board certified or board eligible Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join our expanding, vibrant team of ophthalmologists and optometrists. Glaucoma fellowship training is a plus however general comprehensive ophthalmologists are encouraged to apply. As Colorado's primary safety-net institution, Denver Health serves as a model for other safety net institutions across the nation. This is an ideal position for an individual who enjoys working with a diverse patient population and is committed to the care of underserved and marginalized patients. The candidate will be dedicated to performance standards that result in the highest quality patient care and clinical/surgical standards while advancing the Denver Health culture of excellence. Denver Health serves as one of the graduate medical education sites for the University of Colorado, of which the ophthalmology residents spend approximately a quarter of their residency at this site. The successful candidate will be engaged in teaching ophthalmology residents, both in the clinic setting and in the operating room. The candidate should be comfortable with the medical management of a broad range of eye conditions, and be proficient in performing and teaching phacoemulsification cataract surgery. In addition to teaching and supervising residents, this position also offers the opportunity to develop one's own clinical and surgical practice. This individual will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado and will be given the opportunity to participate in the academic pursuits of the department.

Essential Functions:

Diagnosis and Treatment: Conduct comprehensive eye exams to diagnose and treat eye conditions and diseases. Prescribe medications to treat eye infections, inflammation, or other eye conditions. Perform surgeries on the eyes, such as cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery and other eye surgeries. (35%) Patient Care: Educate patients on eye health and proper eye care. Counsel patients on treatment options and potential risks and benefits. Develop treatment plans and monitor patients' progress over time. Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care for patients. (35%) Research and Education: Conduct research to advance the field of ophthalmology and improve patient outcomes. Participate in educational activities, such as teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Attend conferences and workshops to stay current with advances in ophthalmology. (15%) Administration: Manage patient records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other healthcare providers and departments to ensure effective and efficient operations. (15%)

Education:

Doctorate Degree Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships in ophthalmology Board Certified/Eligible required Licenses: MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. Able to interact effectively with people of varied ducational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems. Performs in a tactful and professional manner. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Computer skills required.
