State of Montana Accountant in Dillon, Montana

Join the MT Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA)! We are seeking an Accountant to develop, implement and monitor the MYCA budget and accounting activities. This position manages the accounting system software, monitors accounting controls and procedures for accounts payable and receivable, federal reimbursements, payroll and related functions. Conducts analysis and forecasting program needs, revenues and expenditures; conducts account reconciliation, develops reports, and ensures timely, accurate and regulatory compliance of all financial activities. Work also provides a range of program support services such as employee orientation, serving as a group leader for field trips and other events, serving as a student advocate, and providing non-emergency assistance to medical personnel. Must have a demonstrated ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the department. This position reports to the Support Services Supervisor. The successful candidate must have an associate degree and at least two (2) years of relevant work experience or education. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance is preferred. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and budgeting, knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, federal accounting systems and requirements. Strong analytical skills, skilled in the operation of personal computers; related word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; problem solving techniques; strong written and verbal communications; and ability to present information to a variety of audiences. The position also requires progressively proficient skills in the use of specialized software applications (e.g., state and Department accounting software systems). Requires the ability to analyze and evaluate complex and often conflicting program needs and budget requirements; reconcile accounting records; interpret and apply a variety of State and federal laws and regulations in a consistent manner; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals (e.g., professional staff, cadets, Department, and federal agency officials, etc.). Ability to work with youth in a structured environment. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. To be considered for employment, must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
