Summary:

The person in this position is primarily responsible for overseeing operations of production and shipping by managing and enforcing work practices and procedures, ensuring productivity KPIs, quality standards and safe work practices are met. This position operates in conjunction with the day and afternoon production shifts with occasional 3rd shift or boat unloading schedules. The position includes on call responsibilities as well.

  • Consistently provide leadership and promote safe productive behaviors.

  • Comply with and train on the site’s safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

  • Promote awareness of safety, health, and environmental practices and ensure that all personnel know and follow the company’s policies, procedures and standards for safety, work assignments, and OSHA regulations.

  • Review inventory & production schedules on a regular basis and ensure site AOP SOIP goals are met and resources aligned to current conditions.

  • Demonstrate leadership in safety and environmental stewardship through conversations and leading by example. Active participation in the Safety Committee is expected.

  • Ensure safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and recommendations are implemented.

  • Take an active role to ensure that regulatory obligations and standards are met thru testing, inspections and documentation.

  • Effectively lead unionized production and shipping personnel within a 24/5 schedule.

  • Ensure ongoing effective people management by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback and development through counseling and training of employees.

  • Ensure personnel are assisted to achieve their full potential.

  • Ensure all employees attend work in a punctual manner and that correct procedures are followed in cases where absences may occur.

  • Effectively communicate to encourage team involvement, engagement and address concerns, suggestions, grievances, etc.

  • Consistently holds production and shipping team members accountable and follows the site progressive disciplinary policies.

  • Ensure work is conducted according to established procedures and in the safest manner.

  • Ensure that all work areas are kept in a safe and clean condition.

  • Ensure that communication and best work practices are achieved through plant inspections and conducting safety and production engagement discussions with staff at the beginning of each shift.

  • Ensure that production targets are achieved through effective supervision of personnel, effective partnership with maintenance, transparent and timely communication to all parties, effective planning, organization and allocation of work on each shift.

  • Continuously improve the skills/knowledge of operators to optimize performance. Develop and document SOPs.

  • Constantly monitor process performance and take corrective actions when necessary.

  • Identify and quickly resolve production issues and/or shipping problems.

  • Contribute to cost efficiency of the department/shifts through monitoring and controlling usage of stores items, minimizing waste, ensuring that equipment is operated efficiently, ensuring employees are kept fully informed of duties, constantly looking for process improvements and cost reduction opportunities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with three (3) years management experience and a strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Experience and a proven track record for continuously improving operations and experience with process equipment and controls is preferred.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. The employee must frequently walk on uneven surfaces and climb ladders and catwalks at elevation.
