Position Summary

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for overseeing food preparation and service activities in dining venues. They assist managers in tasks such as directing and scheduling staff, purchasing, and training. This role involves coordinating, directing, and training duties, as well as upholding service standards and creating a respectful work environment. Duties include staff coordination, administrative functions, food service coordination, and cash handling.

The FS Coordinator interacts with customers, delivery workers, repair workers, employees, and warehouse staff. This position leads lower-level staff and reports to a Housing Dining Services Manager/Chef.

Work conditions are typical of the food service industry. Special requirements include obtaining a food handler's card and completing Hazard Communication Training.

This is a full-time position and will be assigned the night shift, which may include weekends and/or holidays. It is an Essential Personnel position and is expected to report to work during inclement weather or university closures unless instructed otherwise by their supervisor

Minimum Requirements

Two years of experience in a large-scale commercial, hospital, or institutional food service operation with responsibility for maintaining required production levels, preparing simple foods for volume dining, and providing knowledge of the materials and equipment used in a volume dining/food service facility.

Professional Competencies

• Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

• Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor during rush periods.

• Ability to prioritize duties.

• Knowledge, skills, and ability to operate common institutional food service equipment and to grill broil, sauté, braise, bake, steam, cut, mix, and mash.

• Ability to interpret menus and worksheets, prepare usage reports, and understand policies, procedures, and safety information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of experience in a commercial food service facility.

• Associate degree in food service management.

• Experience with leading work or directing the work of others, including experience training others in food service skills and techniques.
