Job Description:

The College of Dentistry is accepting applications for a Sterile Equipment Technician. Primary responsibilities for this position include disinfecting and sterilizing dental instruments, and replacing broken or missing instruments in order to best serve the dental students, faculty members, and departments.

Specific duties include:

  • Dispense clean instruments to dental students and departments, using computer program InfoDot and Axium software. Collect, track, and process contaminated instruments according to sterilization protocol.

  • Disinfect and sterilize dental instruments for all UFCD dental students, and the UFCD dental clinics. Assist with replacing broken or missing instruments for UFCD dental students.

  • Record incoming and outgoing instruments from students and departments using Axium and InfoDot.

  • Check/maintain dental hand instruments and oil dental handpieces.

  • Assist with sterilization monitoring (STERMON) service by completing tests and filing related documents.

  • Help to ensure area is kept safe, neat, and orderly.

  • Receive in-service training (updates, new sterilization techniques, and computer classes).

  • Perform other duties (as assigned).

The work schedule is as follows:

  • You will be assigned 7am-4pm Mon-Fri or 8:30am-5:30pm Mon-Fri with a switch every six months

  • Work some Saturdays and Sundays for continuing education classes and Florida Dental Board Examinations (5 to 30 hours of overtime).

Expected Salary:

$16.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dental assisting certificate

  • one (1) year of dental or dental assisting experience or one (1) year of medical experience

  • Some computer knowledge (Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access)

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to reach above shoulder frequently, lift heavy items, to bend repeatedly, and to pull and push repetitively

  • CPR certification upon hire
