Corewell Health Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Neurosurgery- Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is seeking a patient focused Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our driven Neurosurgery team. We provide specialized and evidence-based approaches to diagnosing and treating children’s conditions involving the brain and nervous system. The entire staff is dedicated to evaluating and treating infants, children and teens. HDVCH is a state-of-the-art, globally integrated, 234-bed free standing dedicated children’s hospital located on the main campus of Corewell Health. Annually, there are 8760 inpatient and 124,600 ambulatory visits, as well as over 55,185 children seen in the Pediatric Emergency Department (Level 1 Trauma rated). HDVCH also has one of the nation’s largest NICU’s (108-beds).

Essential Functions:

  • Works both independently and as a team member to support the inpatient and outpatient team in the care of patients from birth to young adulthood

  • Evaluate and manage pediatric neurosurgery inpatients, including history/physical examinations, order entry, documentation

  • Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources

  • Performing bed-side procedure s

  • Collaborates with the inpatient team to provide support for patients on the acute care neurosurgery floor as well as consults requested on neurosurgical patients who are hospitalized on other services (NICU, PICU, ED, etc.)

  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others

  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and learning initiatives

  • Flexibility in work schedule

Required Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner:

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner

specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of

State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

• Minimum of two years of inpatient pediatric clinical nursing experience; at

least 1 year experience with pediatric neurosurgery patients.

Physician Assistant

• Required Master's Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program

• LIC-Physician Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

• CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on

• Certification of Physician Assistants Upon Hire required

Both NP & PA:

CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required

CRT-Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required

CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required

Desired Qualifications

• Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse

Practitioner (PNP-AC) with one or more years of Acute Care PNP experience

• Three or more years clinical nursing experience with the inpatient/acutely ill pediatric neurosurgery population

• RNFA certification for OR participation

• Demonstrated excellent patient service, written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated continuous professional development activities/research.
