Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity as the VP Transportation, Sourcing & Planning within our Transportation organization. As the Sourcing and Planning Lead, you will lead strategic sourcing of transportation services and logistics planning across all modes of transportation, truck, rail, barge, vessel, and container. This position is instrumental in shaping and delivering the vision of our enterprise transportation function.

This position will build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and our internal product lines to develop a plan to execute all transportation modes, manage assets, and leverage data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and leadership to a sourcing and planning team utilizing all modes of transportation (truck, rail, vessel, barge, container).

  • Manage efficiency and effectiveness of purchases and utilization of the rail fleet.

  • Analyze demand patterns to anticipate peak demand and ensure adequate capacity.

  • Monitor global market trends and adjust strategies to optimize modal strategies.

  • Cultivate strong relationships with transportation suppliers. Negotiate contracts and ensure compliance.

  • Ensure efficient and effective utilization of transportation assets.

  • Collaborate with product line teams to develop and execute supply plans.

  • Analyze demand patterns to anticipate peak demand and ensure adequate capacity.

  • Evaluate internal vs. external sourcing options.

  • Manage an addressable spend of $2.5 billion annually.

  • Must be a strong leader of change with ability to influence at all levels and inspire confidence among all team members including senior leaders.

  • Deliver operational excellence and optimization with the right cost management and pricing strategy to maximize the benefits for internal and external CHS stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply change management or related field.

  • 12+ years of proven experience in transportation sourcing, planning, and supplier management.

  • Prior leadership experience with advancing level of leadership responsibilities.

Additional Qualifications

  • Significant knowledge and experience in agricultural commodity trading, risk management, logistics and execution with a strong understanding of how this relates to truck, rail, and barge transportation.

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in transportation analytics tools.

  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence with a transportation industry presence.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with proven experience and change leadership.

  • Working in a matrix organization.

Physical Requirements

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
