Responsibilities

This position works in the Bariatric Center at Mayo Clinic in Florida. The Bariatric Center offers surgical and non-surgical routes for achieving weight-loss goals by bringing together a highly skilled, compassionate team of providers and caregivers with deep experience and expertise in multiple related specialties. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant performs the following tasks in any authorized setting (clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, nursing homes, or patient's home):

  • Obtaining patient history

  • Coordinates care with physicians and care teams for medical and surgical patients

  • Developing and implementing a treatment plan for patients seeking weight management care (surgical and non-surgical)

  • Monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions

  • Offering counseling and education to meet patient needs

  • Making appropriate referrals

  • Prescribing prescription medication

  • Provide coverage for hospital nutrition in partnership with the Medical Director

  • Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to patient's age-specific needs

This position may work remotely periodically dependent on practice need, which will be assessed after incumbent has occupied the role for at least six months.

Qualifications

New Grads will not be considered at this time.

Nurse Practitioner:

Master's degree in Nursing required. (If licensed prior to 1998, Master's degree not required by the State of Florida.) Must have current Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) license or eligible to obtain Florida license. Certification by the ANCC or AANP in a specialty area required.

Physician Assistant:

Must be a graduate of CAAHEP (Council on the Accreditations of Allied Health Education Programs) approved university program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Florida.

Additional Qualifications:

Bariatric, weight management, or obesity care experience preferred.

License or Certification:

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Florida. BLS is required (American Heart Association or Red Cross). For Nurse Practitioners, certification by the ANCC or AANP is required and for Physician Assistants, NCCPA certification is required.
