Hackensack Meridian Health Lead Physician Assistant Orthopedic Service JSUMC FT in Neptune, New Jersey

Overview

The Lead Physician Assistant reports to the Dir, Surgical Service and performs a dual role. Responsibilities include monitoring and managing the day-to-day needs of the patients as requested by, in conjunction with and under the supervision of a physician as well as overseeing PA operations inclusive of schedules, training and performance. The Lead Physician Assistant will have clinical responsibilities as well as overseeing a team of orthopedic Physician Assistants with 24/7 rotation coverage for the Ortho Service Line at JSUMC.

Responsibilities

1. In addition to the competency description documented in the PA job description, the lead PA oversees the practices and competencies of other PAs in the service. 2. Provides education to physician assistants in physical examination of patients, the management of critical care patients, all operative procedures, bedside procedures, the coordination of care following discharge of patients. 3. Oversees clinic schedule for attendings ensuring appropriateness of patient visits and optimizing physician resources. 4. Develops and maintains PA schedules and PTO to ensure proper level of staffing for patient safety. 5. Develops, manages and distributes OT opportunities and service call schedules. Coordinates cross service coverage need be. 6. Meets with leadership on a regular basis and works on joint departmental initiatives and holds monthly PA service meetings to discuss team initiatives. 7. Provides input for PA annual review. 8. Ensures team compliance with Medical Staff guidelines, medical staff renewals, yearly PPDs and mandatory annual education. 9. Assists in recruitment and facilitates the interviewing process for potential new staff members. 10. Facilitates the involvement of other PAs in research projects and quality improvement initiatives relating to improving patient satisfaction, patient safety, patient education and throughput. 11. Leads in evidence based standardization of care projects, and the development of evidence based medicine protocols. 12. Collaborates initiatives with other services. 13. Develops and maintains structured PA shadow program to include gathering of resumes of interested candidates, overseeing year round program to coincide with the current AAPA recommendations needed for aspiring PAs to apply to a PA program. 14. Responsible for the oversight of and orientation of rotating students, shadows and new team members. 15. Develops and facilitates curriculum to rotating PA and medical students and develops rotation schedules. 16. Provides education discussion and material to rotating students. 17. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 18. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of an accredited school. 2. Minimum of 5 years as a Physician Assistant 3. Surgical experience Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. Physician Assistant License. 2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. 3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.
