The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a highly experienced Information Assurance (IA) Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our IA office and work alongside a full-stack engineering team in both operational and development environments. Responsibilities Include:
Identify security requirements for systems
Ensure security requirements are planned, implemented, and tested
Work collaboratively with the technical team to manage and execute security requirements
Perform all steps of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, including categorization, control selection, control implementation, and assessment of controls
Write System Security Plans, Control Narratives, and perform Security Impact Analysis
Work with the Internal Assessment Team (IAT) to test that all controls are implemented properly or mitigated
Provide security system engineering and security architectural design support services
Review, comment, and authorize security risks and security issues related to any Change Requests
Work with the team to ensure compliance and vulnerability findings are remediated or mitigated
Monitor IAVM notifications from multiple channels and ensure actions for relevant issues are planned and implemented
Assist in the development and implementation of effective NIST SP 800-171 and 800-53 controls to support complex networks
Required Education/Experience:
5 or more years of experience and a Bachelor's degree
4 or more years of experience and a Master's degree
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Assurance, MIS, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
Required Skills:
Excellent understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process in NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-171
Strong understanding of system design and system development lifecycle principles
Practical experience in hardening IT systems in compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
Experience with standard security principles, policies, and industry best practices
Knowledge of network devices and interconnections (e.g., routers, switches, IDS/IPS, firewalls, DNS)
Experience with operating systems (Server, Windows, Linux, and Virtualization)
Strong organizational skills, ability to learn quickly, and demonstrated problem-solving capabilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Project management skills with the ability to create and follow schedules
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with a wide range of internal and external customers
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or DoD 8140 Level III Certification
Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, demanding environment
Capability to apply knowledge to complex practical situations
Must be a U.S. citizen and have or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
