Temple University Lab Assistant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 24001226 Description Grade:  V11 Hourly Rate: $21.16 The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing routine technical laboratory/research related tasks for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Center for Substance Abuse Research. The Laboratory Assistant will be assisting with mutant mouse line breeding, genotyping and record-keeping; rodent behavior experiments, including animal models of pain, itch, affect and motor activity and coordination; Neuroanatomy experiments in rodents, including cannula implantation, tract tracing, intra-cardiac perfusion, sample collection, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy; biochemical experiments such as reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, protein content assay and radiologic and binding. In addition, the Laboratory Assistant will be operating standard laboratory equipment in performing research duties; ordering laboratory supplies; ensuring cleanliness of all laboratory glassware and plastic ware; and maintaining feeding logs. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: At least one year of related laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills and Abilities: *Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records of research performed to NIH standards. *Demonstrated ability to perform routine Westerns Blots, and enzyme-linked immunoassays. *Demonstrated ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office Suite. *Demonstrated ability to work with mice in a research setting. *Excellent verbal and written communication skills. *Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. *Ability to work nights/weekends/early mornings. Preferred: * BS degree in biology or relevant scientific majors.
