Job Description Summary

This full-time position is for a Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator who will be a core member of a collaborative care team. The team includes Penn Medicine on Demand clinicians (PMOD), the PI and CO PI, program manager, and CRS Director. This individual will be involved in a number of projects and grant-based programming, all relating to expanding and supporting services related to increasing access to substance use disorder treatment and resources within the Penn system and greater community. This person will develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency. The volunteer and outreach coordinator will be responsible for updating and expanding resources within Penn and with community practices (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.). This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant stakeholders. This position will also entail liaising closely with substance use navigators and project managers to support the day-to-day tasks of volunteer and outreach coordination and representing the Center for Addiction Medicine and Policy during community events and meetings. The volunteer and outreach coordinator will maintain communication with community partners and CAMP to ensure proper staffing at events. This individual will be responsible for tracking and timely reporting of all activities related to community engagement for the Center of Addiction Medicine and Policy. The volunteer and outreach coordinator will be responsible for providing patients with recovery education and by providing a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible. This individual will maintain contact either in-person, by phone or e-mail with the recovering person once they are connected with care and throughout the intervention to ensure ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed. The volunteer and outreach coordinator will also help patients identify barriers to accessing care to assist in recovery-related activities and develop strategies to overcome those barriers.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer and internship program, including recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers and interns.

  • Coordinate schedules, assignments, and tasks for volunteers and interns to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and goals.

  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and mentorship to volunteers and interns to facilitate their professional development and ensure a positive experience.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify volunteer and internship opportunities that contribute to CAMP’s research, clinical, and policy initiatives.

  • Plan and execute outreach events, workshops, and educational programs to engage the community and raise awareness about harm reduction, treatment, and recovery.

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to expand outreach efforts and maximize impact.

  • Develop and distribute educational materials, resources, and digital content to support outreach initiatives and disseminate information about substance use disorder-related topics.

  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of volunteer, internship, and outreach programs, and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as maintaining databases, preparing reports, and managing communications related to volunteer, internship, and outreach activities.

  • Patient engagement both in person and virtually to ensure navigation to appropriate community resources, support, and follow up i.e. communities of recovery, MOUD, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc. that support the recovering person's goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide recovery education for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.

  • Supervising volunteers, students and interns participating the various types of community engagement and outreach with CAMP

Position contingent upon funding.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree in public health, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred

  • Previous experience in volunteer management, internship coordination, or community outreach, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of substance use disorder-related issues, public health principles, and evidence-based practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with database management and digital communication tools.
