This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an operator in charge of gas or oil fired boiler plants with shift responsibility on a regular recurring basis . Responsibilities Performs minor maintenance to correct the malfunctions. Keeps all boiler plants in a clean and orderly manner. Relays to the relief operator any problems, malfunctions or any changes to equipment made during the shift. Makes changes in fuel burner pressure and air controls to meet load demand. Operates heavy duty air compressors. Keeps a daily log sheet and logbook. Chemically tests boiler water daily and add chemicals to the boiler daily to keep the boiler water readings within the prescribed limits. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.-the ability to perform the full range of duties such as monitoring and making adjustments to valves, pumps, feeders, mixers, industrial and other control Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Operator performing of the following duties: monitor and make adjustments to valves, pumps, feeders, mixers, industrial and other control devices to prevent deficiencies or malfunctions in operations. Monitor pressure gauges and flow meters to maintain water levels in elevated storage tanks, clear well and sedimentation basin. Monitor and make adjustments to sewage system equipment without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Occasionally works in awkward and cramped positions when making minor repairs. Frequent standing, walking and climbing is required when making prescribed checks of all operating plants. Requires heavy lifting of over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to abnormal heat when operating boiler plants. Subject to abnormal cold and bad weather when making prescribed checks in winter. Danger of boiler explosions, high noise levels, toxic fuel and chemical fumes, steam burns and scalding water. May work in dirty, inadequately lighted and ventilated spaces. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. This is a(n) CP 17 Material Maintenance Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
