Thompson, with a summer fellowship designed to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and advance PepsiCos goal of supporting the development of professionals from diverse backgrounds, particularly, first-generation,[1] first-year law students.Throughout his career, Mr. Thompson has been a steadfast champion of diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and a mentor to countless attorneys. While at PepsiCo, he began the companys outside counsel diversity initiative, which enables PepsiCo to engage law firms that share our goal of advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession, including the legal talent pipeline. Prior to his tenure at PepsiCo, while serving as Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Thompson led the U.S. Department of Justices diversity initiative to recruit individuals with a wide range of racial, ethnic, economic, and geographic backgrounds to the Department. Through this fellowship, PepsiCo is focused on continuing Mr. Thompsons legacy of advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.Responsibilities* Fellowship Program* Now in its ninth year, the Larry D. Thompson Legacy of Leadership Fellowship Program will award fellowships to first-generation,1 first-year law students who will also be part of the 1L Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholars Program. The 2024 Fellowship Program will feature a collaboration between PepsiCo and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP (Weil). Fellows will complete a ten-week program in total. The program will begin with seven weeks with PepsiCo based in either Purchase, NY or Plano, TX beginning on May 20, 2024, followed by three weeks with Weil in the firms offices in either New York, NY or Dallas, TX. Fellows will also be invited to participate in the 2024 LCLD 1L Scholars Virtual Experience, which begins on June 4, 2024. Thompson Fellows will receive a weekly stipend of $2,000, subject to applicable withholdings.* Thompson Fellows will have the opportunity to work on projects and with attorneys across various PepsiCo offices, as well as the opportunity to work with Weil attorneys across the firm.
