Blue Origin LLC Thermal Analyst III, Thermal Protection Systems - Space Systems Development in Seattle, Washington

SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will design, analyze, and support development production of thermal protection systems for reentry vehicles. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Definition of thermal protection systems requirements Definition support of thermal environments Design and analysis of thermal protection systems to meet requirements Analysis and impact of material property or flight test data Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or other relevant fields. 4+ years of relevant experience Expertise in thermal analysis and thermal response tools such as thermal desktop, Ansys, and EXITS (Explicit Interactive Thermal Structure code). Experience developing models and post-processing using Matlab and Python. Developing ablation prediction models using Fully Implicit Ablation and Thermal analysis (FIAT) or other similar tools. Familiarity with ablative thermal protection materials, their selection, performance, and their ablation mechanisms. Familiarity with interpreting and use of the re-entry aerothermal data. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and challenges with other engineering disciplines to drive effective decisions. Experience working directly with system and design engineers. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Experience in relevant testing to validate thermal models of re-entry systems. Experience with design and sizing of reusable TPS. Familiarity with the operating environment of re-entry vehicles' thermal protection system (TPS).
