Substation Drafter

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking a Drafter to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Syracuse, NY office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is preferred, however a remote role may be considered and is dependent on the individual's level of experience and proven ability to work remotely.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Drafter, you will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. You are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.

• Perform the detailed drafting and design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:

• One-line diagrams

• Three-line diagrams

• Schematics

• Wiring diagrams

• Communications

• Station physical layouts

• Sections/Elevations

• Cable and conduit plans and details

• Ground grid design and details

• Foundation plans and details

• Structural plans and details

• Control enclosure design and details

• Lightning protection plans

• Yard lighting plans

• The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Learning, understanding, and implementing drafting knowledge.

• Learning client practices and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to the client's standards and expectations.

• Being responsible for knowing and following POWER's standards, procedures, and processes; collaborating on design issues.

• Seeking guidance from those with more experience.

Required Education/Experience

• Associate degree, equivalent technical education, or sufficient industry experience.

• Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer) and/or AutoCAD (version 2016 or newer).

• The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

• 3+ years drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

• Experience drafting in an engineering work environment.

• Experience with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.

• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Experience working with scaled drawings.

• Experience with AutoCAD Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical a plus.

• Working knowledge of substation electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and/or substation physical/civil drawings is a plus.

• Working knowledge of survey coordinate systems a plus.

• Reliable, detailoriented self-starter who takes ownership of assigned tasks.

• Aptitude and desire to learn and grow into a technical design role.
